“Veganism is extreme!”
Veganism is not extreme; it is a natural and compassionate response to obscene animal cruelty. What is extreme is the justification of extreme animal cruelty merely for the personal pleasure of your taste buds. Inflicting pain and suffering on animals for your palate and plate is extreme cruelty.
Discovering what is happening to animals makes it tough to turn a blind eye. When you become aware, you will understand why many vegans are so passionate. Until then you will merely feel inconvenienced by vegans.
If you think some vegans are “preachy” and cause you distress when they expose animal cruelty, then take a minute to think about the feelings of animals and the distress caused to them. Your selfish feelings are nothing in comparison.
If animals could speak, they would use language and methods more extreme than vegans.
They would tell you to leave them alone, don’t touch their family and f**k off. So if you think vegans are extreme, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
Which is more extreme, promoting healthy vegan diet or massacring billions of innocent animals?
“Respect my choice to eat meat.”
What about respecting the views of the billions of animals that suffer brutal deaths?
What about the respecting the feelings of millions of animals that suffer excruciating pain and tortured by cosmetic companies?
What about respecting the plight of millions of humans that starve to death because the food that should be given to humans is fed to animal livestock just so you can eat meat as a luxury?
You may claim to eat meat in moderation, but that’s like being a racist in moderation.
You’d be surprised how many foods contain products that originated from suffering animals.
Your choice is not victimless. Don’t act as if you qualify for respect. Both animals and humans suffer because of your choice.
“Keep it to yourself!”
Activists are often told to “Keep it to yourself” by those who don’t want anyone exposing the cruelty and crime of animal exploitation.
Being nudged out of your sleep is irritating. A conscious becomes troubled when challenged about racism, sexism or speciesism. It is actually the sign of a good conscience. You cannot bribe your conscience. You can try to ignore it and respond, “Keep it to yourself.”
It takes all social justice movements’ decades, if not hundreds of years to achieve their goals of freedom.
· It took 400 years to convince the West that slavery was immoral.
· Women liberation movements have dramatically improved the treatment of women in society.
· Racial segregation wasn’t abolished until the ’60s.
If people had not fought for the freedom of slaves, the abuse and discrimination of women and the segregation of humans based on race, then we would still be where we used to be centuries ago. We are not where we could be, but at least we are not where we used to be.
Slavery traders, male chauvinist and racists of the past would have told activists, “Keep your opinions to yourself.”
People love the truth until it bites them. They hate being held accountable for their selfish and cruel decisions, and loath their cruel deeds being highlighted.
As vegans, we will not keep it to our self; we will speak for the defenseless animals who cannot speak.
“Dear vegan, if you truly care for animals, rescue an animal from slaughter by purchasing it.”
Many people do this, but it is not feasible for most people, and it is not the only way to help animals. Animal liberation is not just one task; it is a collection of numerous activities, and each person must identify how they can best contribute.
Purchasing an animal comes with responsibilities including ongoing costs, having a suitable living environment, medical bills and health issues for both the animal and human. The worst thing you can do is take in an animal you are unable to adequately care for.
For most people, the best way to support the rescue of animals from slaughter is to support animal rescue sanctuaries, financially or as a volunteer. These sanctuaries are best suited to provide animals with the best welfare, far better than your back yard or living room.
“Without meat, there is nothing to eat.”
There is lots for vegans to eat. There are even foods created with the same texture and taste as meat dishes.
The question to be asked is, “If people could eat healthy, delicious food without harming animals would they?”
Unless you are in a survival situation, there is no ethical reasons for you to eat murdered meat except purely for personal pleasure. But that never stopped people before.
“It’s difficult to give up meat and dairy products.”
It’s actually quite easy. Any difficulty is not an excuse to justify animal exploitation.
It would be like a rapist says, “I would give up rape, but I enjoy it too much.”
Or a murderer saying, “I would give up killing people, but I love doing it.”
These appeals would not stand up in a court of law. The judge would throw the book at them and throw away the key.
The inconvenience you have to go through is minuscule compared to the benefits to you, the environment and the animals.
The only thing you give up is cruelty.
“Should we not concentrate on human issues more than animal issues?”
Most people who say this are doing nothing to deal with human issues. You can be a vegan and still contribute to human issues.
Millions of humans starve each day. Instead of distributing food to the hungry, we grow it and feed it to animals that are specifically reared to be slaughtered for meat.
Going vegan will end enormous amounts of human suffering in so many areas that it boggles the mind why we would continue the senseless practice of exploiting animals merely for personal preference.
“Vegans are aggressive activists, protesters, and criminals.”
Vegans are usually staunch pacifists and less likely to commit crimes. If they are morally motivated not to harm animals, the chances are slim they would harm humans without good reason.
Being vegan may not automatically make you a better person, but good nutrition leads to a healthy lifestyle. Some studies seem to indicate that it leads to positive behavior.
